This week’s assignment was to choose 2 social media tools discussed and write a post describing how you would use them for a business. The 2 social media tools I chose were Pinterest and LinkedIn.

Pinterest is a fun way to express your interests and share by pinning photos of what is important to you and what may interest you. Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pin boards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pin boards created by other people. Browsing pin boards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

Pinterest makes good business sense to pin your business and especially if you want to share it with the world. If you are a travel agency and pinned vacation spots, this would interest many people who love to travel and gain great insight on hot spots around the globe. Another example is for a person who loves to cook and love challenges for new and indifferent recipes, could actually find a new recipe and in turn pin it to their board, you could get cooking tips and provide the same to other pinners.

Advertising for businesses is huge in Pinterest, as you can pin almost anything and others can take what you pinned and re-pin it to their board, sharing is huge and by re-pinning the advertisement, your product gets known to the Pinterest population, this is a fun way to stay connected to customers and keep them inform with upcoming product and any new changes within the company. Pinterest also provides free Pinterest apps for the iPhone, iPad, Android Phone, and Android Tablet.

I use LinkedIn for connecting to other businesses and trusted contacts. By getting new contacts this helps me to exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals. LinkedIn gives you the keys to controlling your online identity. LinkedIn profiles rise to the top of search results, letting you control the first impression people get when searching for you online. If you ever Google a business most likely be found in your search on the web. LinkedIn has many tools to help you locate and interact with experts. With the many groups, you can find answers to just about any question. Businesses use this social media site to explore there options, post job ads, sales leads and help find great business partners.

Pinterest overall I found to be more of a fun social media site. They say a picture is worth a thousand words! More and more businesses are using bright cheery photographs to promote their businesses. With Pinterest growing every day, this is a fantastic site to start pinning and start growing.

I do believe LinkedIn is the place to get new opportunities. It’s a great Social Media site to get connected with other business members and and promote your business as well. Many business partners are found through LinkedIn. It is a great site to learn, gain knowledge and grow your business.


Week # 6 assignment, we were asked to promote a company on Youtube. This company, Pet Pawsitive, is uinlike your traditional pet store whereas Pet Pawsitive main focus is on providing behavioral and psychological training for pets and their owners, including basic animal education, obedience, rehabilitation and service classes. Both Kingston and Belleville has a retail outlet that sells all-natural and holistic pet foods and a variety of training supplies.

Using Youtube videos to promote Pet Pawsitive would have an enormous positive effect on how to train your pet!  As both locations are actively invovled in the surrounding communities, this would be a welcomed video showing promise to all pet owners, educating both the pets and the owners. I would like to see many different pets, not just focussing on small pets but pets of all sizes and all backgrounds. This would show the customer that anything is possible whether you have a King Shephard or a Teacup Chiwawa. It would also show the natural products, supplies and the benefits of using holistic pet foods. Everyone loves free stuff, offer free samples for those who wish to visit Pet Pawsitive. You would want to grab the viewers attention, so something cute to bring that smile out would be preferrable. The end of the video show have a pet and an owner paw to hand doing a high 5, Oh So Pawsitive!

In my opinion, youtube is the way to go for almost any advertising. This would  be pawsitive training for Pet Pawsitive and a way to stay connected to the consumer and possible new customers. This could be a pet and an owner  being videotaped from Kingston or Belleville and BAM! A star is born! What better way to advertise then have your business video go viral. All of this and ensuring all participants and viewers have a Pawsitive experience.

This weeks assignment is to search for a company that is using Facebook Fan Pages as a marketing tool to reach their customers. With Facebook reaching over 1 billion users as of 4th October 2012, many companies will be using Facebook as an advertising platform.  There are so many companies to choose from for this assignment, I decided to take a look at Schneiders, a Canadian Company. everyone loves a good meal here and there and Scheinders makes it easy! Scheinders is actively invovled in other social medias sites such as Twitter and Pinterest and have their links attached to the Schneiders Fan Page.

Schneiders is using their Facebook Fan Page extremely well!  The page is focused on meal preparation, recipes, contests, giveaways and coupon savings. With well over 112,000 likes schneiders are able to reach their fans and provide information about sales, discounts and even free food items. While looking through the Schneider fan page I notice that there was alot of likes for individual post and many shares of the same post. This is great advertising for Schneiders as the shares actually get posted to the individuals timeline and then gets shared again and again.

Schneider Facebook Fan Page is very colorful, alot of fun, new recipes and a wide range of different topics, which I feel is able to grab the readers attention. They have many contests and when someone is a winner, it is posted on page for everyone to see. Schneiders also advertises free giveaways for other companies such as Dempsters, and provides links to get that free product, how cool is that! Comments are coming regularly, letting Schneiders know how happy the customers are with their giveaways, coupons and other contests. So in other words, lots of customer feedback.

Overall I believe Schneiders is using their fanpage to the maximum and reaping the rewards. As Schneiders quoted ” Schneiders® is the name you can trust for delicious, superior quality meats and food products. Our promise is that you can taste the difference quality makes” Customers look up to Schneiders and are big supporters of this Canadian company, their facebook fanpage certainly proves that!
